HB High Takes down Rival San Clemente High

May 25, 2007 - Huntington Beach High takes the win over rival San Clemente High in a battle featuring some of the most progressive displays of high school surfing ever seen.

Professional surfers Mike Losness and Nate Yeomans coached San Clemente High along with head coach John Dowell. Huntington Beach High School was coached by Andy Veronde and Barry Defenbaugh.

San Clemente High School dominated the first period, but Huntington Beach High answered right back. In the second period, San Clemente High was unable to better their score and opened the door for Huntington Beach High to take the lead in the second period. In the final minute, the crowd cheered as Colton Larson executed three huge power snaps, improving the total score for his team.

Going into the final period, Huntington Beach High held a four-point lead. San Clemente High stepped it up with top scoring waves. Then in a display of progressive surfing that defines “The Game” format, Trevor Sandaurs landed a huge front side ally-opp air followed by two huge snaps, earning the Game’s Most Radical Maneuver award.

Huntington Beach High was able to take the win with eight minutes remaining after big scores from AJ Collins, Quin McCrystal and Game MVP Colton Larson.

Only one stop remains, as rivalries continue to grow teams will battle hoping to advance and become the National Champions. Next week Red Bull High School Cup takes the action to Solana Beach, San Diego May 29-31st at Fletcher Cove. Championships will take place June 18-19th at San Onofre Trails Beach in San Clemente, California.
