High School Cup Hits Malibu
Waiting Game
Flat Conditions Force Postponement of Golden State Regional Final
(May 7, 2007) -The Red Bull High School Cup kicked off its second stop at Surfrider Beach in Malibu as four high school teams rallied against the unpredictable conditions. With high winds and knee high waves, the teams worked hard to put on a good show. Many times teams fell victim to a nearly flat ocean, and at other times the ocean came alive only leaving a few minutes for teams to take the lead.
Each of the four teams competes in a single elimination “Game” format. Each winning regional team advances and will compete in the semi finals for the opportunity to become National Champions. After two days of bad conditions, organizers were hesitant about running the final day. Thus, after unacceptable conditions the final day was postponed.
The finals will commence on June 18th at San Onofre Trails Beach in San Clemente, CA. Malibu High School vs. Ventura High School are the two Golden State teams set to battle for the regional title.
